Stuffed flounder with crab meat was the best I ever had. Cooked perfectly and melts in your mouth. There were 4 of us that had Nicks the night before and I must say the food here was better. Went back for the fried chicken the next night and it was very good, not greasy or salty. Tasty steaks and ribs were excellent according to my husband. Caesar salad was another favorite with us. The coleslaw seemed homemade and the veggies are fresh. The atmosphere was very nice. Sat in different locations each time there. First night was in a more quiet relaxing area and second night sat in their bar area where you could eat crabs and enjoy the panoramic view of big screen TV's. They greet you at the door with a warm friendly smile and each waiter gave good service.

Looking for overpriced very average food this is your place. When we arrived we ordered drinks. I ordered a tap beer. When it arrived it was lukewarm. I complained and a very apologetic waiter offered to get me another which also arrived lukewarm. I switched to bottled which arrived cold. I was told the manager was looking into issues with the tap beer. When it came time to order our dinner I quickly discovered that this was strictly a meat and potatoes place. the only vegetable I was told was the vegetable of the day which was steamed corn. Not even corn-on-the-cob. Very disappointing. The bread served was very good and turns out was the highlight of the meal. My daughter ordered a half rack of ribs and "Ocean City's best crab cake" combo. Her half rack was 5 over-sauced ribs and what I would say, is definitely NOT OC's best crab cake. Very bready and smelled like crab past its prime. My 16 oz Kingcut of prime rib was far smaller than 16 oz and was very fatty and not in a good way. My wife and two other kids said their food was OK. No one was very impressed. Service getting us stuff was very fast and efficient and the waiter was constantly around asking us if everything was OK. One issue we had was that they never took anything away. Empty cups and plates piled up on a very crowded small table. Food was edible but nothing to get excited about. There are far better places in OC to spend your money. My advice, find someplace else.

I ate here recently with a large party (10 people). Strike one, they sat us at 2 different 5 person tables. There were plenty of large tables open. We had to "discuss" this with 2 different people, that we didn't want to sit separately. They eventually put us in a large table. This took about 15 mins. Strike two. The service was super slow. The waiter was there to take our order and deliver our food. He didn't really show up in between. We had to track down a server to get more napkins. Strike three. It is pricey for what you get. And by that I mean mediocre food. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly good. Skip this place and go to Nick's.

Nice atmosphere, great waiter (Casey), gave us early bird prices even though we were 30 minutes past 6pm. Ribs and fried chicken were great, family of 4 ate for $60. Fast service, lots of drink refills.

Great ribs and chicken. Get the root beer! Bailey gets messy with the BBQ sauce but it's great.

Was there during bike fest. Didnt have to wait for a table which was good but that was the only good part. The service sucked and the food was either over or under cooked. I do not recommend eating here.cant give zero stars.

The onion loaf is too oily, and the Disney mural is kind of depressing, but fond memories of being here as a kid.

Went to both locations. Will never go back. Dry, stingy ribs. Out of onion loaf one night, too greasy the next trip. Uninterested slow service. Had a bad stomach ache after the second trip to this place. My family has learned not to argue with me when I say not to go back to a place!

I'M SO VERY HAPPY SERVICE WAS A DISGRACE!!! I had to give a star %%%%%I GIVE THEM NOOOOOOOOO STARS%%%%% Went into this establishment on August 4th we walked in and it was pretty much empty and we should have turned around then a Lil skeptical but we proceeded to let the hostess seat us at our table and give it a chance... The hostess turned and said to us that our server would b with us soon we sat for a lil while longer and the hostess returned with our bread and repeated that our server would b with us shortly..... As we were sitting there the hostess sat another couple right next to our table and repeated to them your server will be with you shortly and before she could walk away their server was there and started taking their order as we sat there with our menus laying on the table (we knew what we wanted before the hostess came with the bread) about to eat our bread.....I thought maybe he isn't our server After the server took their entire order drink appetizer and dinner order and turned and walked away another server walked up introduced herself to the couple as their server they explained to her that their whole order has been placed with the gentleman... This server says to them I dnt know why he took your order but I'm going to find out she left and came back and said to the ladies we are fighting over your order which one of us will b taking it (if I'm not mistaken "HE" THE FIRST SERVER ALREADY TOOK IT WHAT ABOUT US SITTING RIGHT HERE) It was time for me to leave!!!! WHAT A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION!!! But I thank you so much for ur awful service because I went down the street to HIGGINS HOUSE where service was impeccable and the food was so delicious the drinks were awesome I couldn't stop asking for margaritas... We almost needed to b rolled out of there because of all that we ate.... Embers Blu was also another beautiful great restaurant wit great service food and drinks...

The ribs were just awful. Sides were no better. The MD Crab Soup was pretty good. Would never eat here again.

Ewwww. Was seated and left before ordering. Overpriced menu and not a good selection. Atmosphere left a lot to be desired!

I would not say that this is the place for ribs! The first star off was the wilted and brown greens on the plate. If you are going to add greens, at least make sure they are fresh! The ribs were well cooked but fatty. The bbq sauce was vinegar based but seemed to be missing everything else. I have made vinegar based sauces and they never tasted like this. it had much too strong a vinegar taste and no other flavors involved. My husband did enjoy the baked beans. If you are looking for good ribs, head to The Crab Bag.

I ordered the tilapia. The seasoning made it taste like Ramen noodles :-( Also the "half" order of the onion loaf was huge... Definitely our least favorite place we ate at during our week in OC.

My wife and I ordered off of their 2 for $39.95 menu. We both got ribs, I got a dinner salad that was more like a 1/4 of a side salad, but I have to say they had some of the best Caesar dressing I have ever had. I got my baked potato topped with cheese with and bacon for about a $1.50 extra and it was quite good. My wife got the Maryland crab soup which was quite delicious. With her ribs she got baked beans which were good and also a baked potato. Now for the ribs...If J/Rs is the place for ribs I would be a little disappointed, as I don't know if this ribs rank in my top 10 in my life. They are quite meaty but feel as through store brand BBQ sauce is just added to them. Also, the presentation and plates leave much to be desired. Overall, OK food, Quick seating, and attentive wait staff.

Greeted at the door by Jack, the owner, who recommend crab cakes and baby back ribs. Cream of crab- perfect not too heavy- with a good flavor. Ribs good but not great

1 1/2 hours to get food forgot appetizer messed up food order. All food was cold Cole slaw tasted like rotten crabs.

  • Nate G.

The waiter, though a little quirky was nice enough. The food choice, however, was incredibly limited - all the selections fit onto a one page menu. We were then informed they were all out of three of the entrées, so the selection was even smaller. The food was pretty standard, definitely nothing special and certainly not worth the high prices (especially during off season).

I'm from New Jersey and this is my first time in Ocean City. This place came highly recommended to me so of course I wanted to give it a try. I was there with my wife, son, his wife and their two children. My two grand son's wouldn't finish their food because it arrived cold. My son ordered Brisket, corn on the cob, and beans. They told him they didn't have any brisket left so they gave him pulled pork that was all fat and greasy. My wife ordered pork chops, corn on the cob and French fries. My daughter in law ordered 1/2 rack of ribs, corn on the cob and French fries. One grandson ordered the kids 1/2 rack of ribs French fries. The other grandson ordered a hamburger and fries. I ordered 1/2 rack of ribs, corn on the cob and coleslaw. The place was not busy at the time we were there but everything that everyone ordered arrived cold. The only thing that arrived the way it was suppose to was my coleslaw. Our waitress was very nice and she kept apologizing and we told her it wasn't her fault. She told the manager and she took 20% off the bill which was nice of her but she never came over to the table herself to apologize. Very unprofessional. We saw that JR's got some bad reviews but we decided to give it a try anyway. I don't recommend this place but if you want to give it a try be my guest.

The King of Thieves! Went with a party of 10 tonight and very disappointed. The only thing worth eating was the small crab cake. The service was poor, the food was cold and even the sodas were flat! The only pleasant part of the evening was meeting the owner Jack who greeted us at the door. He was a sweetheart!

This was my first experience at Jr's with my family (7 adults and 4 children). Everyone except for one adult ordered the fried shrimp and 1/2 pound steamed shrimp with a side of veggies and baked potato. The potatoes came out hard. It appeared as though they had been boiled first them baked. The cocktail sauce for the shrimp were frozen. The staff didn't know why it was frozen since they "make it fresh daily" they gave us new sauce but it was still a little cold. The upside is that the kids enjoyed their burgers and the server speared to genuinely care about her table.

Wow, in my opinion, is not the place for ribs! My quest for the perfect rack of ribs (on10/17/14) hit a brick wall at JR's Ribs. I ordered the half-rack of baby back ribs, steak fries, and baked beans. As usual, I try very hard to find the positive aspects of any bbq--as I truly love ribs. That being said, I could not find any positives about these ribs. The ribs tasted as if they were first boiled and/or baked, covered in sauce, and lastly grilled for show. The ribs reminded me of what you'd find low scale Las Vegas buffet line, kind of like the scene in the movie Vegas Vacation, that includes the infamous lime-green Jell-O w/ Chevy Chase & Randy Quaid. The rib meat was too mushy, greasy, and generally unappealing. This not real BBQ! The baked beans were decent with bits of bacon and onion. So too were the potato wedges, but hell, I want good ribs--everything else is a side show. The main act here was a big disappointment. For the price I paid, I expected much better, in my opinion.

We were headed next door to the Crab Bag but they "ran out of crabs". Perhaps they should have brought a bigger bag. So we ended up here and it was a little higher end than we expected but we stayed anyway and set out to enjoy it. Ordered a 25$ jumbo shrimp special and a 12$ brisket nachos. Waitress was rushed, only half the tables were open but those that were were full and the staff was behind on everything. Didn't have drinks refilled until the end and when requested. Food was very high quality but not great portions. The brisket was good, chips and jalapeños and all of the ingredients were very fresh and great but it was still just chips meat pico jalapeños and nacho cheese. A little underwhelming. The expensive shrimp plate was very good, they didn't skimp on the crab stuffing but it did mask the fact that "jumbo" shrimp was being a bit generous in the use of the word. Side selection was not great and sides were pretty average. "Ranch fries" = generic potato wedges and a baked potato was literally a plain baked potato with a side of sour cream. All in all it was a poor value and only the above average quality of the ingredients and someone nicer atmosphere saved it from an otherwise one star review.

Very nice service and attentive servers, but food is rather mediocre. A cheeseburger offered on a bun is served with nothing else but a pile of greasy burnt fries and flavorless coleslaw. The Caesar salad is bland, but OK. The kids enjoyed chicken tenders.

  • Brian C.

I had the Rib and Brisket combo. Next time I will only get the ribs. The service was kind of slow. Some one held the door open, I'm guessing the owner from the other reviews. They were doing a menu change when we were their. My party members were upset because they liked the seafood options from the previous menu. Hopefully everyone will enjoy it next time. I will be back.

The crabcakes were the best I've ever had anywhere. Their ribs were also botb tasty and easily came right off the bone.

Tip - keep driving. Terrible food, service was even worse!! Of four people, zero meals were even adequate! The pulled pork sandwich dissolved in one person's hand. My tilapia was so salty, I could barely identify it. Both sandwiches were supposed to come with slaw. We had to remind the waitress who flat out said she forgot, and laughed. It took a solid hour to get our food. The manager said it was our fault because we got appetizers...then the waitress added that a few large groups came in. The place was EMPTY except for us Nd some senior week group of SIX! Yikes, no wonder.... The manager flat out refused to comp anything because we ate. Technically we didn't because the crappy sandwich was being replaced with another crappy sandwich. It was so bad that we stopped people in the parking lot to tell them to go somewhere else!!!!

Really good service and good ribs. Meaty and soft with just the right amount of sauce.

A staple on Coastal Highway, but this was our first time dining there.. we didn't want to wait at the Crab Bag next door and decided to give JRs a try. 7:30 on a Saturday night and the place was pretty empty (first bad sign). That sat us in the BACK of the place next to the kitchen door and checkout station. Weird. Why wouldn't you seat us near the windows since it's not crowded. Yes, we could have asked but didn't really think about it until we sat and realized the place was empty. We all got dishes with crabmeat.. their crab cake and crab stuffing is very good...nice a lumpy. However, they add some imperial sauce that tastes like mustard, far too strong for the delicious delicate meat. It tasted OK but was not needed. So I would ask for it on the side. The prices were a little high for the overall quality.

Well, it's been a while since I've heard AM Gold's Greatest Hits playing over restaurant speakers. I didn't miss it. Everyone in my party got steaks - which they said were really good. I got the herb rotisserie chicken which was just ok. It was covered in like...chopped garlic which appeared to be added before serving. The before dinner bread was good as well, but let's be frank, not many restaurants that do bread mess it up. Otherwise, all of the sides we had probably came out of a can or jar...the corn was especially bad. Absolutely no flavor, and it's corn season! The wait staff were obviously foreigners, which I have no problem with because they are usually hard working and gracious...and our waitress was. A little slow on the service, but not bad. Her co-workers, however, were hanging out in the back, were we happened to be seated, (next to the giant Disney themed mural, which by the way, topped off the tacky interior I will berate later) chit chatting, and doing whatever which was a tad annoying. The decor...I'm not sure what they're really going for here. Western? Ranch? They had like....that, along with southwestern paintings on the wall. And then that big Disney mural in the back for the kids. This place was obviously decorated by an idiot. Anyways, one star for the steaks, one star for the chicken and bread. Peace out JR..we won't be back.

I wanted to eat at the crab place next door but the wait was over an hour, so we went here. It's average family dining. The food is decent but the service is poor and slow.

  • Sam H.

This place is awful. The pulled pork sandwich was completely dry which came with a stale bun. I got the "steak n cakes" special. The steak was cooked to the correct temperature but had zero flavoring, seasoning, etc. It didn't even have a simple salt n pepper dry rub applied to it. The ribs were over cooked and looked to be "old". To serve them, it seemed as though they threw them in the microwave and then splashed some bottled bbq sauce on it. Sometimes if the food is bad, great service can offset it. Unfortunately, that was not that case here.

JR's is a typical ocean city tourist food trap. "Best ribs in ocean city" reads across every surface in the joint including the roof. The staff treated our group of ten like we were cattle. For all the signage the ribs and its wet sauce tasted primarily like ketchup, the pulled pork was a barren desert of taste due to its dry and sauce-less consistency. Overall, the servers we friendly enough, and the blame for my groups poor experience lies truly with the managers. If you have a hungry group of carnivores to feed, you really cant go wrong with JR's, just don't get your hopes up.

  • Jeff F.

I have not been to Jr's since I was a kid and it was good to see a place that was good then become great now. The onion loaf was more then we could handle at our table. That much food for $9 is great. The service was excellent and the ribs feel off the bone as advertised and tasted delicious.

I'm writing this for my parents who ate here on their vacation to MD. Let me start off by saying the only upside to their visit was the very nice waitress they had. Now onto their meals... My mom ordered a plain cheeseburger that was less than 6" and over $10! It didn't come with any sides, just a tiny burger in a large basket. It was an okay tasting burger, but $10 for such a small burger in the off season is ridiculous. My father had a half rack of ribs that was brought to him cold on one side and luke-warm on the other, and obviously microwaved. The waitress was nice enough to bring him out a new rack and a half to make up for them being cold, but they were still microwaved. There is no way in their minds or mine that a place named after ribs should serve ribs that have been microwaved, it is not hard to put ribs on a grill to heat them up for every order. All in all, my parents will never go back to this place, and they just wanted me to write this review for them since they don't know how to use Yelp and wanted all other potential customers to be warned.

Jr's is not bad. It is definitely over-priced, and the atmosphere is tuned to the family frequency, but the food is OK. Other reviewers have claimed that they found the best ribs ever here, but I assure you that this is not the case. My stoner friend, who has become a BBQ connoisseur in the past few years actually makes better ribs, which is sad considering that this is "The place for ribs". I ordered the "Jumbo" shrimp entrée and I was entirely disappointed. The shrimp in question were average in size, at best, yet the plate managed to cost $18. As gazed at my plate, I couldn't help but think that I could have gotten this same meal at Long John Silver's for a fraction of the price. The kicker was finding out the reason why the mac and cheese is only available in one size-as a kid's menu entrée. It's actually Amy's frozen mac n cheese. Yes, Amy's. The same shit you buy in the grocery store. I won't totally knock this place though-my girlfriend ordered the ribs/crabcake combo entrée and I had a taste of both. The crabcake was better than I expected (keep in mind that I am a Maryland resident), and the ribs were downright good. The bottom line is that Jr's is a tourist trap. It's right on the main drag of OC, it caters to families and it serves decent family fare at exorbitantly high prices. Avoid this place unless you are in a bind-you won't be disappointed until the check comes.

We just came into town and needed a close place for takeout so we chose this place because it seemed to have an assortment for everyone. If we had a chance to research more we probably would have chosen another place. The food was pretty standard, nothing special. It tasted good, don't get me wrong. So the food gets like 3 stars but the portions, price, and service brings the whole place down. Portions were skimpy. Especially for the price we paid. I would have expected to be full after a meal here at that price and then some. My ribs and chicken "combo" came with 6 ribs and a small quarter of a chicken. A couple of people in our group didn't even get their full complement of sides. We got one lousy loaf of bread the size of a sandwich loaf after ordering 6 full meals. I'm not sure if this is standard for ocean city but the trip hasn't started out well at all. Good thing I picked up some Negro Modela to drink alongside otherwise I would go home right now.

The food was nothing to come back for. The ribs were smaller than the picture shows and didn't taste all that great. Would give a lower rating but giving 3 stars because our waiter was very helpful with the menu and very friendly. Offered to sub out a side if we didn't like it and always around when we needed something.

I guess I should have known better when I read a sign "Best ribs in OC" outside the restaurant. We carried out the ribs...the host was very helpful to assist us ordering the right food and amount for our group and the price for the amount of food was reasonable; however the ribs were just average.

I really liked this place!!!! the ribs were great (the meat just fell off the bone) and the sirloin steak was the best i have every had in a long time!!! A little pricey but worth it. I suggest they have an all you can eat night or that option on the menu everynight.

Looking for a restaurant that serves the best ribs and barbeque ever? Then look no further than J/R's...... I have never been able to find ribs that are better prepared and served than at J/R's in Ocean City..... they start with the finest meat, then slow cook them using some of the best sauce I've ever tasted. If you want the best ribs and BBQ you've ever had, then head to J/R's!
